Geelong celebrates its volunteers this week

Geelong volunteer leaders will come together to celebrate National Week of the Volunteer at an event appreciating our community’s volunteers.

The event, organised by Volunteering Geelong in partnership with genU, will be held on Thursday, May 18 at Eastern Hub, East Geelong between 1.30-3pm, celebrating volunteers with a high tea.

Volunteering Geelong is the chair organisation of the Geelong Volunteer Leaders Network, which is made up of over 160 agencies across the region.

Now in its sixth consecutive year, the event is aimed at recognising, valuing and celebrating the significant contribution of volunteers across our region and inspiring others to get involved in causes they are passionate about.

Volunteering Geelong CEO Helen Hunter said under this year’s NVW theme, ‘the Change Makers’, the event will celebrate the strong leadership shown within Geelong’s organisations that involve volunteers.

“Every day volunteers are out and about in the community providing essential support across the region, Ms Hunter said.

“That’s why we want to say thank you at the appreciation event. It will be a wonderful opportunity to thank volunteers from across the Geelong region for their continued resilience, passion and drive to give back to their community.”

“During the event, we will also hear from volunteer leaders and volunteers on our shared need to adapt, innovate and inspire during the COVID-19 response and recovery stages.”
