Pedestrian killed

A pedestrian has died after a car struck her at Geelong West on Monday afternoon.

Police believe the woman was crossing Clarence Street, near Shannon Avenue, when the car struck her about 1.05pm.

Paramedics took her to hospital in a critical condition but she died a short time later.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and assisted investigators with their enquiries, police said.

They urged any witnesses to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.

The woman’s death brought the Victorian road toll to 57, down on 62 the same time last year.
