Fall fine

A five metre fall that seriously injured a worker at a Highton church in October 2018 has resulted in a conviction and a $3,367 fine for a commercial cleaning company.

Parkton Enterprises pleaded guilty in Geelong Magistrates Court last Friday to failing to control the risk of a fall from height, provide instruction and provide training on working at height.

Tragic death

An elderly Newtown man died in hospital on Wednesday following a crash in his home suburb earlier this month.

The 86-year-old man was driving along Prospect Rd, Newtown, about 3.10pm on January 3 when he lost control of his car, witnesses told investigators.

Measles fear

A Geelong teenager has become the first Victorian measles case for 2020 after returning from Italy, according to the state’s Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton.

Dr Sutton warned anyone who was at Woolworths Waurn Ponds at midday on January 7 or at Soul Pattinson Chemist, Geelong, during the evening on January 9 to be vigilant for symptoms.

Bad faith

Vandals have caused thousands of dollars of damage to churches across Geelong over the holiday period.

Reports emerged this week of vandals smashing stained glass windows and scribbling tags across churches in Corio, Moolap, Highton and Belmont.
