Telstra disruptions to effect Torquay

Mobile users may experience temporary service disruptions next week as Telstra upgrades its Torquay North mobile base station.

Upgrade works will begin at the station on Monday, September 22, for better mobile coverage, faster downloads, smoother streaming, and less user congestion.

Telstra Northern and Western Victoria regional general manager Steve Tinker said works would help prepare the site for a further upgrade to 5G.

“We know how important mobile connectivity is for Australians, whether you’re in the city or the country,” he said.

“As data use over our mobile network continues to grow, adding extra 4G/5G capacity to our mobile site in the area will help deliver faster downloads, smoother streaming, and less congestion for customers.

“While disruption is required while the upgrade is underway, we’ll only be switching off the site when we need to and will have it back online and working better than ever as quickly as possible.”

There will be no Telstra mobile coverage from the Torquay North site from 8am Monday to 6pm Thursday, September 25, with the network restored at the end of the day.

Disruptions to the Telstra mobile network will occur from 8am to 6pm on Monday, September 29, and Tuesday, September 30.

Telstra said there were no scheduled disruptions to the mobile network from Friday, September 26, to Sunday, September 28 and that customers will receive texts about the upcoming works.
