Winch Pool prepares to make waves

Community members across the Surf Coast are invited to have their say on the new Winchelsea Pool as summer fast approaches.

Surf Coast Shire Council recently launched a short survey for the community to provide feedback on options for opening hours for the pool during its first full summer season.

Councillor Joel Grist said it was important to receive the community’s feedback ahead of the pool’s new summer season opening in late November and closing in early March.

“We encourage community members to let us know their preferences as we prepare for the new season,” he said.

“We appreciate that the community wants to make the best of this sparkling new facility, and we look forward to a new summer season of activity and family fun.

“We deliver pool opening hours within the adopted budget, and can’t extend opening hours indefinitely, but some adjustments based on community preferences might make positive differences for users.”

The survey will ask for feedback regarding proposed longer hours during school holidays, shorter hours during school terms or consistent hours for the pool.

People can also share their views on introducing a temperature threshold for opening the pool, including a closure on colder days, with public notice, and enabling longer hours in hotter weather.

The new pool was opened in late February following an $8.9 million redevelopment, which was fully funded under the council’s asset renewal program.
