Geelong residents have outraged their municipal neighbours by dumping rubbish in Melton, according to its council.

Melton Shire chief executive Neville Smith revealed at a council meeting that surveillance cameras had caught people from Geelong in the act dumping unwanted household goods at two of the shire’s charity shops.

The controversial practice of “fracking” could come to Geelong after oil and gas explorer Lakes Oil revealed it was conducting geological and geophysical studies in the region.

Chairman Robert Annells said the studies targeted the company’s PEP163 permit area from Geelong to Anglesea.

Violent porn, dating apps and historic offences have driven a 45 per cent increase in sexualoffences in Geelong, according a local counselling service.

“We’ve seen a correlation between the increase of accessing porn and sexual offences,”said Barwon Centre Against Sexual Assault (CASA) chief Helen Bolton.

South Barwon homelessness rates have soared by 465 per cent, according to data from The Council to Homeless Persons.

The analysis compares Census data from 2016 to 2021 and identified that the South Barwon electorate near Geelong recorded the state’s worst homelessness increase by close to 148 people.
