The City of Greater Geelong has announced two new scholarships for local women leaders.
The EmpowerHER leadership scholarships, announced on Wednesday 11 March at the City’s Women in Community Life Celebration event at Geelong Arts Centre, will see the two recipients attend a five-day program delivered by independent non-profit Leadership Victoria.
The Igniting Leadership Program, designed for emerging leaders, focuses on developing participants’ leadership and influence skills, ability to navigate change and awareness of self and others.
The scholarships are supported by member for Corangamite Libby Coker, GMHBA, Soroptimist International of Geelong, Women’s Health and Wellbeing Barwon South West and Zonta Club of Geelong.
Councillor Melissa Cadwell, chair of the City’s women and community life portfolio, said the scholarships aimed to celebrate and empower women in our community who were making a difference.
“Council is thrilled to fund the EmpowerHER leadership scholarships and give two women an exciting opportunity to advance their leadership skills,” she said.
“These scholarships reflect our ongoing commitment to progress gender equality and inclusion in our region, a core theme of the Women in Community Life Awards.”
Women and community life portfolio deputy chair, councillor Emma Sinclair, said Geelong thrived when women’s perspectives were represented.
“Women bring unique strengths to leadership and council is committed to nurturing these through our EmpowerHER leadership scholarships,” she said.
“We want to open doors for women who are ready to grow and lead. This is your tap on the shoulder to put yourself out there and apply.”
