Becoming Drop Defenders

Geelong’s youngest community members can be Drop Defenders this weekend by taking on the challenge of saving water at the Royal Geelong Show.

Barwon Water’s pavilion space will feature interactive installations and activities, highlighting the Geelong region’s ongoing dry conditions and engaging kids to learn water-saving tricks.

Customers, community and strategy general manager Elisa Hunter said one of the pavilion’s major attractions would be a Bop It-style game, which encouraged kids to be Drop Defenders by finding ways to help save water.

“We’re really excited by our show offering this year, with free games, displays, activities and even face painting on offer,” she said.

“The space is part of our wider campaign to educate and encourage residents to make positive changes that help ensure we all have water well into the future.

“There is a variety of playful and entertaining ways that both children and adults can learn about the value of water and how they can help make every drop count.”

Ms Hunter said the pavilion would be a hive of activity during the show and featured the creative touches of three renowned designers.

The pavilion concept and design were jointly delivered by P’Co Design’s Pete Wilson, Aeroplane Workshop’s Jamie Ferguson and artist Callum Preston.

The Royal Geelong Show will run from Thursday 16 October to Sunday 19 October at Geelong Showgrounds.
