Geelong records new case with 257 state-wide

Geelong recorded another active COVID-19 case yesterday as the state total increased by 257, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

Greater Geelong had six active cases and 75 in total as of midnight on Monday, up on five and 74 the previous day.

Surf Coast’s active cases remained level on one, with ten in total since the pandemic began.

The Golden Plains recorded three new cases, bringing the shire’s total since the pandemic began to four (three currently active), according to the department.

A woman and a man, both in their 80s, died in hospital, bringing the total deaths from COVID-19 in Victoria to 26.

The department recorded 270 cases with 13 reclassified, largely due to duplication, increasing the state total by 257 to 4224.

Victoria currently has 1803 active cases and 752 from unknown transmission.

Of the new cases, 28 are linked to outbreaks and 242 are under investigation. No new cases have been detected in returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

Currently 85 people are in hospital with COVID-19, including 26 in intensive care, while 2395 people have recovered from the virus.

Of the total cases, 3799 are from metropolitan Melbourne, while 298 are from regional Victoria. More than 1,170,300 tests have been processed to date.
