OG grandfather wins $608K in lotto

An Ocean Grove grandfather is looking forward to spoiling his grandkids “rotten” after winning more than $608,000 in a Saturday night lotto draw.

When a lotto official phoned on Tuesday morning the man revealed the life-changing moment he discovered the win.

“I checked my ticket on Saturday night just before I went to bed,” he explained.

“I was laying there scrolling through my phone when I remembered to check my ticket.

“I saw that I had won a division six prize of $14.75 and thought that wasn’t not too bad.

“Then I scrolled down further and saw that I had all six numbers and had also won division one.

“I was in shock. I turned my phone off and just lay in bed staring at the ceiling. I thought I was losing my mind. I couldn’t comprehend it at all!

“I called my daughter who lives nearby and got her to come around to double check it.

“We both looked it up on the computer and when we confirmed I had won, we were both stunned!”

The regular player also revealed how he came to hold the winning numbers.

“I’ve been playing TattsLotto now for over 40 years and this is by far the most decent win I’ve ever had,” he said.

“Whenever I put on an entry, I mark a few special numbers before filling up the rest of the entry with random numbers.

“As it turns out, it was the random numbers that won it for me. They are definitely special numbers to me now!”

When asked how he planned to spend the windfall, he said his top priority was sharing it with his children and grandchildren.

“I’ve got three kids and five grandkids and so when the money goes into my account, my first priority is helping them out,” he said.

“I told my grandkids yesterday, ‘Poppy is going to spoil you rotten!’.

“I’ve got a few little ideas on how I can spoil myself too. Who knows, it might be time for me to get myself some new digs too.”

The Ocean Grove man was one of seven division one winning entries nationally in TattsLotto’s Saturday night draw.

His division one win netted him $608,714.79 while his division six win took his total prize to $608,729.54.

The odds of winning Saturday night’s draw were 1 in 8,145,060.
