Police arrest man following school lockdowns

Police arrested a man at Newcomb this morning following an incident that caused the lockdown of several nearby schools.

“The incident occurred on Helms Road just after 7.30am and it is believed all parties were known to each other,” Victoria Police spokesperson Leading Senior Constable Rohan Imms said.

“A 32-year-old Newcomb man is assisting police with their enquiries and the investigation is ongoing.”

About 8.10am Christ the King Catholic School notified parents of a “serious, ongoing incident close to the school”.

According to reports on social media the incident also forced the lockdown of several other primary and secondary schools across Newcomb and Whittington.

A police helicopter circled the area during the incident. The schools were released from lockdown after 10am.
