Students bring big ideas

Students from Oberon High School and Iona College stepped up this week to demonstrate their brilliance at generating and winning support for bold and inspired ideas.

Local business ID Land has teamed up with Crazy Ideas College (CIC) to provide local students with the support, tools and connections to generate and bring transformative ideas to life.

The year 9s completed the CIC Social Innovators (SI) program over August 10 and 11 and brought ideas that can help reimagine what a life well lived looks like for the community.

Working in teams, students designed programs, products and services that enrich the lives of their fellow citizens.

Across the two days, students discovered new insights around issues they care about, generated crazy good ideas, prototyped how these ideas can work in community, and developed compelling pitches that inspire action.

The ideas were pitched to a panel of community partners.

“It’s really important we’re equipping young people with the skills and connections to thrive post school, and that community and business partners play a key role in doing tha,” Crazy Ideas College’s Zoe Burrows said.

Local community and business partners are connected into the program so that teams extend their thinking and great ideas can be acted upon. Community partners will be providing feedback to teams as they develop their ideas and connecting teams with the right people and resources so their ideas can be brought to life.

Key themes that the ideas addressed included finding ways to promote care for the environment, enhancing health and wellbeing and fostering community connectedness.
