Speed limits in Teesdale and Bannockburn have been reduced to improve regional pedestrian safety.
The speed limits on Bannockburn’s entire stretch of Geelong Road and Teesdale’s Bannockburn Shelford Road from Tolson Street to the east of Mercer Street from 80kph to 60kph.
Golden Plains Shire Council’s Town Maintenance team lowered the speed limits following an application to the Department of Transport and Planning and VicRoads funding.
Mayor Brett Cunningham said he looked forward to increased pedestrian safety for Golden Plains residents and visitors thanks to the speed limit reductions.
“Pedestrian safety improvements are a top priority for communities across the Shire,” he said.
“Council has been working closely with the Department of Transport to advocate for these speed limit reductions for improved pedestrian safety in townships across the Shire.
“Council is committed to ensuring the safety of all road users and pedestrians to support healthy and active living in Golden Plains.
“Along with these recent speed reductions, Council continues to work to identify upgrade projects that will improve safety for all users residing in or passing through Golden Plains.”
Speed limits along Linton’s Sussex Street from Gillespie Street to Grant Street and Smythesdale’s Brooke Street from Verdon Street to Heales Street have also been lowered from 60kph to 50kph.
