Surf Coast Shire Council will continue to try and achieve goals over the next 18 months to benefit the community and land.
The Mid Year Three Council Plan Progress Report is the fifth progress report of the Council Plan 2021-2025, which provides a roadmap to how council’s goals will be achieved.
Councillor Gary Allen said a lot of council’s work related to the Community Vision in the Council Plan, which was established through community input.
“It is great to reflect and acknowledge the achievements that have been made by council over the last three plus years,” he said.
“(The plan helps) enhance our natural environment and our unique neighbourhoods and leave the Surf Coast better than how we found it.”
Key progress made over the reporting period included maintaining a positive financial position, increased support for professional artists and 73 per cent of waste recovered at disposal sites.
The Reflect, Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) was adopted, the shared Jan Juc to Bellbrae pathway project planning started, and land management was conducted at Wadawurrung significant sites.
The Anglesea Community and Health Hub Precinct and Surf Coast Aquatic and Health Centre projects have also reached the next development stages across the reporting period.
Over the next 18 months, council will focus on delivering the Reflect RAP, supporting community-led Reconciliation groups, and ensuring new facility designs meet best practice requirements.
The plan will look into connecting businesses with ethical, social, and sustainability initiatives and completing the Creative Halls project.
Council will also aim to improve the health of the Anglesea River, deliver community initiatives grants, install electric vehicle charging stations, and undertake climate risk assessments.
