Suspicious package found at police station

Geelong Police Station has been cordoned off and the bomb squad called in after a suspicious package was found this morning.

Victoria Police have confirmed police were currently conducting a safety check on a package found outside the Geelong Police Station just after 7am.

The area at the front of the station on Mercer Street has been cordoned off, with police diverting pedestrians away.

The road has also been closed to traffic.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said the Bomb Response Unit had been called in as a precaution.
