Avalon Airport goes international

Travelling is getting easier with international flights and additional domestic trips launching out of Melbourne Avalon Airport.

Trips to Bali out of the airport and flights to Adelaide will begin in March next year, along with five extra weekly flights to Brisbane.

Jetstar will run the new services, and chief executive Stephanie Tully said the Bali service would be the airline’s first international route from the airport.

“This is a massive step forward for Jetstar at Melbourne Avalon Airport, and we’re launching two new routes and adding more seat capacity than ever before,” she said.

“Whether it’s a family holiday in Bali or a weekend away in Adelaide or Brisbane, these services give Victorians even more options to take off more, for less.

“This investment will see thousands more customers fly through Melbourne’s second airport gateway, supporting the economic growth of Melbourne, Geelong, the Surf Coast and the Bellarine Peninsula.”

The flight expansions will add more than 330,000 new low-fare seats annually in and out of Melbourne’s second airport gateway.

Melbourne Avalon Airport chief executive Ari Suss said the partnership between Avalon and Jetstar was now into its 22nd year.

“(The renewed partnership) will deliver more frequency, better connections, and the ability for people between Melbourne and Geelong to start their journey closer to home,” he said.

The state government will also help introduce a new Route 18 service that will launch in the coming months and connect to the nearby Lara Station seven days a week.
