Awards will go ahead

The 35th Geelong Business Excellence Awards are set to continue this year, with organisers extending the deadline for submissions from May 1 to July 24.

Geelong Chamber of Commerce this week announced the extension to give locals extra time to enter as they navigated “challenging times”.

Celebrating Geelong’s “clever, creative and thriving business community” was “more important than ever” as local businesses endured and adapted to the coronavirus pandemic, the chamber said.

The awards provided local businesses a platform to raise their profile by showing the community what they are good at, according to chamber chief executive Ben Flynn.

“Entering the awards is a really positive opportunity to look at the things your team has done well,” he said.

“It’s a great time to revisit those achievements in the year to March that have made your business so successful.”

Judging panel chair Simon Flowers described the awards as an excellent chance for locals to celebrate their team and examine their business closely.

“Here is an opportunity to engage your team and revisit your business plan,” he said.

“During these difficult times, it is important to recount your successes as a business and identify areas of improvement and opportunity.”

Organisers have postponed the Geelong Business Excellence Awards presentation dinner, initially scheduled for July, with the annual celebration now set to take place at The Pier Geelong on October 15.

Entry submissions are based on business activity between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2020.
