WInchelsea projects near completion

Three Surf Coast Shire projects in Winchelsea are on track to open in early 2025.

The shire announced this week that Winchelsea’s new pool, Adventure Play Space and Barwon River Loop were all expected to be completed in the early months of next year.

The $8.2 million pool facility, fully funded by Surf Coast Shire’s asset renewal program, began in March this year following the decommissioning of the existing pool, which had serviced the community for 60 years.

The 25m and program pools are currently being tiled, with contractors poised to pour the concrete concourses surrounding the pools before landscaping begins.

The Adventure Play Space, funded by the council ($600,000) and Recreation Victoria ($250,000), will incorporate the existing playground on Barwon Terrace, adding a flying fox with wheelchair access, an embankment slide and elevated cubby pods.

The Barwon River Loop project will link existing paths to create a two-kilometre walking loop, including a new bridge and two riverbank viewing platforms.

Surf Coast Shire chief executive Robyn Seymour said the council was proud to be delivering the “important projects” to the community and its visitors.

“The new gathering space shelter and surrounds will also be reopened during November following landscaping including building of paths, garden beds and an access ramp from Barwon Terrace,” she said.

“Each of these projects has involved significant community input which has helped shape them. We thank community members for having provided valued input and look forward to the developments bringing health and recreational benefits for families and individuals for decades to come.”
