Bond to unique house

A Batesford house, which features a design based on Sean Connery’s Spanish manor, looks set to be sold.

The three-bedroom brick house, at 21 Shepherd Road, features a gabled roof and arches; a courtyard with a water fountain; and a dining room with built-in wine cabinets and display cases.

Owen Sharkey from First National Real Estate Golden Plains said when the house’s original owner was travelling in Spain, he spotted Connery’s mansion and “fell in love” with it.

The owner sketched the Marbella mansion and constructed his dream home, based on the drawing, once he was back in Australia.

Mr Sharkey said he recently took a “lovely couple” through the property. The pair have made an offer for the house and it is now under contract.

Mr Sharkey said the offer “was not too far away” from the owner’s asking price of $1.15 million.

A fire pit and pool table located in the house are included in the sale of the property, which is located in the Riverstone Estate and overlooks views of the Moorabool Valley.

“It’s got the best views in the whole estate,” Mr Sharkey said.

He said the couple buying the house “loved the story of the property”.

“It really took me by surprise, how they fell in love with the property,” Mr Sharkey said.

“I’m local to Batesford myself, I know it’s a home a lot of people talk about.”
