Three councillors have called a public meeting to fight plans for redevelopment of Geelong Golf Club.

Eddy Kontelj, Stretch Kontelj and Barbara Abley, whose wards border the former club course, called the meeting following an advisory committee hearing on the land yesterday.

Geelong Mayor Darryn Lyons says he is a victim of the United Kingdom’s phone-hacking scandal.

Cr Lyons told the Independent he was unable to talk because of police investigations and legal action in London but could confirm he was an alleged victim of News Corp hacking.

Traders welcomed the official opening of WorkSafe’s headquarters yesterday as more than 500 employees previously working in Melbourne relocated to Geelong.

The relocation could “only be a good thing for Geelong CBD”, cafe owner Damian Rabbas said.

A Geelong charity that has been feeding the homeless for 32 years has been given months to find a new home or face permanent closure.

The Outpost provides a hot meal, access to clothing and personal hygiene items, and even food for pets of the homeless, 365 days a year.
