Essential period products are becoming more accessible in Geelong, with free pads and tampons now available at GMHBA Stadium.
The stadium was one of more than 20 venues included in an expansion of the state government’s free pads and tampons program, which provides free pads and tampons in vending machines in public spaces.
Minister for Women Natalie Hutchins said GMHBA Stadium had eight vending machines for people to access free period products.
“Whether you’re at a footy final or on a school excursion, you shouldn’t have to worry about access to pads and tampons,” she said.
“We’re delivering free pads and tampons in public places right across Victoria, and now we’re making it a reality at some of our most iconic venues, saving Victorian families thousands of dollars every year.”
Ms Hutchins said one in five women and girls reported that they couldn’t afford the period products they needed every month.
The Queenscliff, Drysdale, Leopold, Waurn Ponds, Belmont, Newcomb, Geelong, and Lara libraries offer vending machines and free period products.
Torquay’s Wurdi Baierr Stadium and Kurrambee Myaring Community Centre, The Gordon’s East Geelong and Geelong City campuses, Norlane ARC, and Barwon Health’s University Hospital Geelong, McKellar Centre, and North locations also offer free period products.
The free pads and tampons program has dispensed more than 90,000 packs since the program launched in November last year, according to the state government.
