Lara outdoor pool opens

Lara’s new aquatic centre opened its outdoor pool on Saturday October 1 ahead of the busy summer season.

City of Greater Geelong also announced extended opening hours for its Kardinia pool.

Funding was allocated in the City’s budget over the past two years to open the Lara pool from the beginning of October, and Kardinia pool year-round.

Swimmers can now access the Kardinia Aquatic Centre from 5.30am to 7pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Until the end of October, Lara Aquatic Centre will be open from 6am to 10am and 3pm to 6pm Monday to Friday, while remaining open from 10am to 5pm on weekends.

The municipality’s northern-most pool will further increase its hours of operation from November 1 and continue over summer.

Deputy mayor Trent Sullivan welcomed the increased opening hours of the City’s outdoor pools and encouraged the community to take advantage of the opportunity to become active.

“The Council is committed to helping community members achieve their health and fitness goals and swimming is a great way to get out and be active,” he said.

“Whether a member of the City of Greater Geelong Swim, Sport and Leisure network or simply a casual user, the opportunity to hit the water outdoors is very appealing to many.”
