A successful pool season

The Winchelsea Pool is continuing to make a splash during the final days of its first full summer season before it closes on Monday.

Season attendance has topped 7000 people since the pool reopened in late November last year following a redevelopment, with the highest single-day attendance recorded on 29 December with 352 people.

Surf Coast Shire deputy mayor Tony Phelps said he thanked the Winchelsea community for supporting the much-loved community asset during its opening season.

“The community called for a splash park during our consultation, and kids have certainly demonstrated how much they love that; what a hit it has proven to be,” he said.

“It has been wonderful to see so many people enjoying the pool, whether to just cool off, swim some laps, participate in the programs or relax and have fun with the family.”

The 2025-26 summer season will come to an end on Monday 9 March, following the Labour Day long weekend.

Surf Coast Shire Council fully funded the $8.9 million redevelopment of the Barwon Terrace pool site, including a new 25-metre pool, leisure pool, pavilion, plant room, shelters and a splash park.

Council introduced a 21-degree temperature threshold for the pools’ opening hours in response to community feedback, allowing staff hours to be reallocated for extended opening on hotter days, weekends and public holidays.

A tender process is currently open for an experienced aquatics operator to manage the Winchelsea pool and Torquay’s new Wurdi Baierr Aquatic and Recreation Centre during the 2026-27 season.
