Intersection works nearly done

Intersection works at Surf Coast Highway, Rosser Boulevard and Coombes Road are nearly done, just in time for the holidays.

Final asphalt works are underway, with traffic and public lighting commissioned by Powercor in late March or early April next year.

The project started in May, with contractor works expected to be completed by Christmas to have all Surf Coast Highway lanes, which are two lanes each way, opened to traffic.

There will be limited access between Coombes Road and the highway during this time, and Rosser Boulevard will remain closed until the traffic lights are fully operational.

Surf Coast Shire councillor Kate Gazzard said the project would help improve traffic flow and safety and that the lights would be switched on as soon as possible.

“It will create a new traffic access point to the Surf Coast Highway for north Torquay residents, as well as signalised crossing points for pedestrian safety,” she said.

“While the works are running to schedule and due for completion in time for Christmas, we remind residents that the traffic lights commissioning process by Powercor can take a few months.”

Traffic and public lighting need to be commissioned by Powercor before the council can fully open the Surf Coast Highway, Rosser Boulevard, and Coombes Road intersection for safety reasons.

The temporary 40km/h speed limit will remain in place until the intersection is opened and the lights are operational.

The project also includes the extension of Rosser Boulevard to connect with the highway and the installation of traffic lights, lighting, bicycle lanes, and bus stops.
