Music and fun at the Botanic Gardens

The Geelong Botanic Gardens will be alive with music, informative activities and entertainment this weekend at its annual open day.

Running from 10am till 2pm on Sunday, the open day will offer a range of activities, including live performances, walk and talk tours and pot planting sessions.

The day will start with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony conducted by Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative, which will be followed by a series of live shows from Dazzling Dan the Magic Man, the Sweethearts and Andrea Robertson.

Guided walking tours will be conducted by Friends of Geelong Botanic Gardens and International Nature and Forest Therapy Alliance, while special interest groups such as the Australian Plants Society Geelong and Beekeepers Geelong will be on hand.

Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan encouraged the community to come along to enjoy the day.

“With an array of food options and live music, there is plenty to see and do,” Mayor Sullivan said.

Chair of the Active Spaces Portfolio Councillor Eddy Kontelj also highlighted the City’s survey, which is currently live, seeking the community’s input on how to further develop the gardens.

“Your input will help guide us in providing the amenities and spaces that align with visitors’ desires and needs in their beloved Botanic Gardens,” Cr Kontelj said.

“It helps us make decisions to ensure that the Geelong Botanic Gardens meets the ongoing needs of the community.”

The survey is online now at yoursay.geelongaustralia.com.au/gbgardens, closing on Friday, November 4.
