Geelong’s Nature Festival is returning with a vibrant family fun day at the historic Fyansford Paper Mill.
The event is a free, family-friendly winter adventure celebrating the region’s unique natural environment with interactive displays, guided walks, creative workshops, and inspiring talks from leading environmental voices.
The day, on Saturday July 12, will begin with a Welcome to Country by Wadawurrung Traditional Owner Corrina Eccles, followed by presentations from Dr Kylie Soanes (University of Melbourne), Tania Moloney (Nurture in Nature), and Bec Benini (Kids in Nature Network).
A wide range of activities will be on offer from 10am to 2pm, including wildlife encounters, kids’ nature play, art and craft, environmental displays, and roaming performances by the Bandicoots from Born in a Taxi.
Guided tours of the paper mill will be offered by Highton Rotary Club at 10.30am and 11.30am, while the City of Greater Geelong’s Nature Reserves Team and the Friends of Buckley Falls will lead three river walks and planting sessions throughout the day.
“The Geelong Nature Festival is a fantastic opportunity for families to connect with nature, learn from experts, and celebrate the incredible biodiversity we have right here in our backyard,” Mayor Stretch Kontelj said.
“We’re proud to support events that inspire the next generation of nature champions.”
Chair of the Environment and Circular Economy portfolio Elise Wilkinson said the festival reflects the City’s commitment to sustainability and community connection.
“Geelong Nature Festival brings the community together to celebrate and care for our environment,” she said.
“It’s all about making sustainability something we live and breathe every day, in ways that are fun, impactful, and inclusive.
“Don’t just stay inside this winter, embrace the chill and join us in this celebration of nature and the outdoors.”
