Celebrating Culture and Country

City Hall will light up with a “colourful and thought-provoking” projection program for NAIDOC Week.

From July 4 to 13 the program will feature work from seven local First Nations artists adapted to large-scale projections, celebrating continuing connection to and care for Country.

In 2025 NAIDOC Week celebrates its 50th year with the theme of The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy.

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the projections on City Hall would be vibrant and engaging.

“We are proud to showcase these expressive works from local First Nations artists through this project,” he said.

“The projections are just one of the many ways community members can celebrate NAIDOC Week and learn more about First Nations Cultures and histories.

“We are grateful for the contribution of Wadawurrung and First Nations artists in sharing their important stories and Culture with our community and visitors in celebration of NAIDOC Week.”

In addition to the projections program the City is also supporting free Cultural Education Tours hosted by Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation and Koori Kids’ NAIDOC Week School Initiative Competitions and several other events and activities across the region.

Deputy Mayor Ron Nelson encouraged the local community to get involved with the growing number of NAIDOC Week events.

“NAIDOC Week is a special time that provides an opportunity for community members to connect deeply with our region’s Wadawurrung and First Nations communities, their Culture and resilience,” Cr Nelson said.

“These events and opportunities will be informative, educational, family friendly and welcoming to allies who want to show their support.”
