Geelong council is looking for tourism operators interested in leasing a large public area site in the city’s north.
The City of Greater Geelong is now accepting expressions of interest (EOIs) for the lease of Seagull Paddock in Norlane.
The site is currently a public reserve with walking tracks and public picnic facilities and is close to both the Spirit of Tasmania terminal and the Pivot City precinct.
It is zoned as a Public Park and Recreation Zone and will not be rezoned
Used for landfill during the 1970s, it is only suitable for uses that do not disturb subsurface soil.
Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the move was part of a push to enhance tourism in Geelong’s north.
“Our Sustainable Destination Master Plan says we need to do more to enhance tourism opportunities around the Spirit of Tasmania and in Geelong’s north, so we’re getting on with it through this EOI process,” Mayor Kontelj said.
“Seagull Paddock is in an incredible location with strong tourism potential for the right operator.”
Councillor Trent Sullivan encouraged interested parties who meet the criteria to apply.
“We look forward to receiving some really good submissions, and we can’t wait to see the potential of this site realised,” Cr Sullivan said.
