Caravan rollover causes traffic chaos

A caravan rolled on Geelong Ring Rd at Batesford on Monday morning, spilling vegetable oil and causing major traffic delays.

Emergency services were currently at the scene of the rollover, Victoria Police Senior Constable Jacob Gooden said at midday.

Police believe a caravan tipped about 10.30am, spilling vegetable oil on the road.

No one sustained injuries as a result, Sen Const Gooden said.

Police closed all Melbourne-bound lanes of the road and redirected traffic onto Ballarat Rd as emergency services cleaned up the spill.

“Traffic should turn right onto Ballarat Rd, left onto Anakie Rd and head back and resume the journey on the Geelong Ring Rd,” Sen Cosnt Gooden said.

“Allow extra time.”

The crash had caused “significant traffic repercussions” Sen Const Gooden said.

Social media users reported major traffic jams from the Corio turn-off of Geelong Ring Rd on Monday morning.
