Geelong active cases drop 40 per cent in a week

Geelong’s active COVID-19 cases have dropped by more than 40 per cent in a week, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

Greater Geelong had 38 active cases as of midnight on Wednesday compared to 65 a week before.

Geelong recorded four new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday increasing the city’s total since the pandemic began to 360.

But active cases dropped by two in same the 24 hours, according the department.

Colac-Otway Shire recorded five new cases, increasing its total active cases to 17.

Surf Coast Shire’s active cases dropped by one to two, while Golden Plains Shire currently has no active cases according to the department.

Victoria recorded 113 new cases with one reclassified, largely due to duplication, increasing the total cases by 112 to 19,336.

Active cases dropped by 120 from 2415 on Tuesday to 2295 as of midnight on Wednesday.

Of the total active cases, 1121 relate to aged care facilities and 2125 reside in metropolitan Melbourne.

Another 15 Victorians have died after contracting coronavirus, including 14 linked to aged care outbreaks, bringing the state’s death toll to 591.

The deaths include four men in their 80s, three women in their 80s, two men in their 90s and six women in their 90s.

Currently 361 people are in hospital after contracting COVID-19 including 20 in intensive care, while 16,370 people have recovered.

A total of 2,331,261 test results have been received by the department since 1 January.
