Funding for South West farmers

Farmers from the Surf Coast and Golden Plains can better prepare for dry weather thanks to state government funding.

A $13.28 million Drought Support Package will help support farmers impacted by drought conditions from 11 south west local government areas across the state, including the Surf Coast and Golden Plains.

Premier Jacinta Allan said the state government would invest $12.1 million to help farmers prepare their properties for dry conditions and $1.18 million investment in counselling and advice.

“Victorians are proud of our world-class produce, and we’ll always support our world-class producers,” she said.

“Farmers in Victoria’s south west are facing the lowest rainfall on record, and we’re stepping in to support them.”

Minister for Agriculture Ros Spence said eligible farmers would receive up to $5000 as a co-contribution grant to support water infrastructure upgrades.

“I’ve heard directly from farmers in the south west about the impact drought conditions are having on our communities, and this package will drive the long-term resilience the south west needs,” she said.

The package will also be available to farmers in Glenelg, Southern Grampians, Warrnambool, Moyne, Corangamite, Colac Otway, West Wimmera, Ararat, and Pyrenees.

Member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora said the state’s south west was facing the lowest rainfall on record, impacting farmer’s stock and harvest.

“We’re supporting our farmers and local communities by providing practical assistance and support to ensure their long-term sustainability,” she said.
