Corio couple’s $2.5 million win

A “flabbergasted” Corio couple discovered they had won $2.5 million on Tuesday afternoon – three days after their winning numbers came up on Saturday night.

“We’re a bit overwhelmed at the moment. We can’t believe it!” the wife told lotto officials.

“We had no idea! We just checked our ticket today. We’ve played every week for the last 40 years, and we’ve never won anything like this.

“We won $1200 about 30 years ago, which was fantastic at the time, but this is even better! We’re a bit flabbergasted.”

The couple joked about how they would share the $2,579,223 windfall from the Tattslotto draw.

“I might have to ask my husband if he’ll share it with me. He might just give me the $23,” the wife said.

“There are no problems about that – I’ll take the rest,” her husband laughed.

The money would help make a memorable Christmas for their family, the couple revealed.

“We’ve got four kids so they might be getting a very big Christmas present,” the wife declared.

“We’ll have to get something for ourselves as well. It hasn’t sunk in yet so we’ll have to think about it some more.”

The couple bought their ticket from Corio Lucky Lotto, to the delight of owner Jack Karpinski.

“They were sitting there like stunned mullets in shock,” he said.

“It felt great to be able to help them realise they are now multi-millionaires.”
