Greens announce Lower House candidate

The Greens will be represented by Aleisha Smith as candidate for the Lower House Seat of Geelong at the state election.

Ms Smith is a small-business owner, a Geelong Shiatsu practitioner, a yoga teacher and an advocate for the arts as a band promoter and events manager.

“Geelong is fast becoming a diverse, vibrant city full of young professionals, families and students and it’s time our elected representation reflected this,” she said.

“The major parties have taken us for granted for too long – it’s time for change.”

Ms Smith said she has heard from community members about the serious challenges they are facing and that too many are not being addressed sufficiently by the government.

“We urgently need to address the rising cost of living, lack of sufficient local public transport, improve housing affordability, and take immediate action to stop the impact of the climate crisis,” she said.

“I will strongly oppose the proposed floating gas terminals in Corio Bay and Port Philip Bay, as they have the potential for enormous impact on residents and our precious coastal waters”.
