Police officers from the state highway patrol unit have impounded a vehicle after it was allegedly caught speeding more than 50 kilometres per hour over the limit over the weekend.
The 2017 Holden Commodore sedan was allegedly detected driving at 153km/h in a 100km/h on the Geelong Rind Road in Ceres about 2.25pm on Saturday.
The car was intercepted and the driver, a 20-year-old Elliminyt man, was charged with speeding offences and had his car impounded for 30 days.
He is expected to be summonsed to face court.
The impoundment came as part of Operation Compass, a statewide road policing operation targeting speeding, distraction, fatigue and impaired driving on the roads over the Melbourne Cup weekend.
Operation Compass runs until Sunday.
