Major bridge set for night closures

James Harrison Bridge, which connects La Trobe Terrace in South Geelong and Settlement Road in Belmont, will close to southbound traffic for six nights beginning on Sunday.

VicRoads on Monday announced southbound lanes would close for bridge works over six nights starting 9pm on Sunday, September 6.

Detours will be in place between 9pm and 6am until Friday, September 11, the roads authority announced.

“Drivers should follow the signed detour via Fyans Street and cross the Barwon River via the Moorabool Street bridge during the night works,” a VicRoads spokesperson said.

“We ask drivers to plan ahead and allow an extra 10 minutes for their journey. Both southbound lanes will re-open during the day.

“The northbound lanes, travelling from Belmont towards Melbourne, will not be affected by these bridge works.

“Local residents should expect noise and lights at night while these bridge strengthening works are completed.”

Real-time traffic conditions are available at traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au or via the VicTraffic mobile app.
