Surf Coast ranks high

Surf Coast Shire is performing higher than other councils, according to the latest state local government community satisfaction survey.

Survey results of council featured an overall performance score of 57, ranking above the average rating for the large rural councils group (50) and all councils across the state (53).

Waste management and customer service were the council’s highest-performing individual areas, receiving index scores of 70.

Councillor Tony Phelps said council also averaged higher in its overall direction, consultation and engagement, value for money, and community decisions.

“Thank you to the community members who gave their time to complete the survey,” he said.

“We aim to be a high performing Council, and this is a good way to get a snapshot of how our ratepayers think we’re going.

“While it gives us good insight, it’s important to note that this survey is one of several ways we evaluate our performance to decide our priority focus areas.

“The responses suggest our performance is well ahead of the average Victorian council, but there’s room to improve and we’re still striving to get better.”

Despite maintenance of unsealed roads (score of 46) and sealed roads (52) ratings being higher than other councils, the scores were lower than council’s results from last year.

The state government commissioned the annual survey, which included independent phone surveys of 600 resident and non-resident Surf Coast Shire ratepayers conducted earlier this year.
