A man has been charged after an early morning chase and hit-and-run through Geelong involving an allegedly stolen vehicle.
The 21-year-old man from Torquay drove across Armstrong Creek, Geelong West, Corio and Geelong before he was stopped by police in Waurn Ponds in the early hours of July 1.
Police attempted to intercept an alleged stolen grey Holden Wagon after being spotted in Armstrong Creek’s Mandalay Avenue at about 12.45am.
After the car sped off from police, it was again spotted on Burvillies Road at around 1.10am, where police kept covert observations.
The car then turned into Compass Way where it rammed a stationary police car and drove off through a nearby paddock.
Officers in the police car were not seriously injured, but the pursuit was called off due to the Holden’s dangerous driving.
The car was followed to Geelong West, Corio and Geelong until police successfully deployed vehicle immobilisation devices.
The driver was stopped and arrested near Waurn Ponds’ Anglesea Road and was charged with:
– aggravated reckless exposure of police officer to risk by driving (x2)
– dangerous driving while pursued by police
– theft of motor vehicle
– reckless conduct endangering life
– drive vehicle whilst exceeding prescribed concentration of drugs
– fail oral fluid test
– drive whilst disqualified
– fail to stop on police direction
– possess controlled weapon
He was remanded to appear at Geelong Magistrates’ Court on July 15.
