Bomb scare
A home-made bomb led to police cordoning off a Corio property yesterday.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said officers discovered the pipe-bomb during a search in Fairbairn Dve, with the area declared safe about 2pm.

Land talks
A company is in negotiations to redevelop a 465-hectare site including Crown land for a 4000-dwelling estate at Moolap, State Government has revealed.
Deputy Premier Peter Ryan said Ridley’s plan for its former salt works and the adjoining 289 hectares of Crown land it leases from the Government had potential to turn “a disused area into a real asset”.

Thefts arrest
POLICE have arrested a Bentleigh man over a spate of alleged car thefts and burglaries on the Bellarine Peninsula in the past week.
A police spokesperson said the 37-year-old was arrested during an alleged burglary in Portarlington on Tuesday

Man critical
A MAN in his 40s was airlifted to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition after rolling his car at Mannerim on Thursday morning.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said the driver had head injuries after his car slammed into a tree on Swan Bay Rd.

Burglary hotspots
Three suburbs in northern Geelong have ranked near the top of a list of burglary hotspots in Victoria.
Motorists organisation and insurer RACV said Corio, Norlane and North Geelong were all in its regional top 10 for burglaries.

Cadel farewell
Barwon Head’s Tour de France hero will use a Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race named in his honour to farewell competitive racing.
Cadel Evans said the race would be his last as organisers this week released course details for the event on 1 February.
