Fishing in focus at annual St Leonards festival tomorrow

THE RICH history of St Leonards will be on show during a community festival tomorrow.
St Leonards’ main street will host an array of activities and novelties, including food, music and street stalls, classic car displays, an animal nursery and a kids’ activity van.
Highlights will include a fishing tournament, an outdoor boating display, a market and an art show at St Leonards Yacht Club.
Festival committee member Steve Walsh said fishing was a new focus of the festival.
“The innovation this year is the creation of a high-quality, long-term fishing competition run in conjunction with the local angling club,” he said.
“There are not enough of these sorts of events represented in towns like St Leonards, which are primarily fishing villages.”
Mr Walsh said the land and boat-based competition would run from 6am to 6pm tomorrow.
Entry would cost $5 for adults and $3 for children to compete for thousands of dollars worth of prizes, Mr Walsh said.
Entries were available at St Leonards’ Foodworks, Drysdale’s Bellarine Bait and at boat ramps on the day.
The festival runs from 11am to 7pm.
