Cats star Patrick Dangerfield could be ineligible for a consecutive Brownlow Medal after the AFL match review committee offered him a one-match ban today.
The reigning medallist could effectively hand the 2017 medal to favourite Dustin Martin if he accepts the ban.
But Dangerfield would risk a two-match ban if the Cats challenged the suspension.
The AFL’s Twitter account announced the one-game offer this afternoon.
“Patrick Dangerfield can accept a one-game ban for rough conduct on Matthew Kreuzer,” the AFL tweeted.
Dangerfield’s sling-like tackle on Friday night left Carlton ruckman Kreuzer with concussion, leaving him uncertain to play Essendon next weekend.
The Cats play Sydney and Richmond over the next fortnight as Geelong seeks to lock up a top-four finish.
Geelong has yet to comment on the ban or announce any appeal.

The panel said Dangerfield could accept the one-match ban with an early plea.
“Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Carlton Football Club, the incident was assessed as careless conduct with medium impact to the head,” the panel said.
“The incident was classified as a two-match sanction. The player has a no applicable record which impacts the penalty.
