Truckie trapped in Geelong bypass crash

A TRUCK crash and other incidents are keeping emergency crews busy around Geelong as windy weather lashes the region, according to an SES spokesperson.

Scott Clark said the truck driver was left trapped by the legs after his vehicle overturned on Geelong’s ring road this afternoon.

The truck had apparently collided with a car near Barrabool Rd, Wandana Heights, before coming to rest on its side.

“SES and CFA rescue crews have worked with Ambulance crews to extricate one casualty by cutting the pedals to release the trapped foot,” Mr Clark said.

“The casualty was removed through the front window of the overturned truck after rescue crews battled severe weather including high winds and rain.”

Mr Clark said the crews spent half an hour freeing the driver.

Motorists reported backed up north-bound traffic after the crash.

Mr Clark said SES crews were busy with numerous incidents ranging from trees down, roofs blown off and a dislodged trampoline that came to rest against a fence and the roof of a house.

“SES Volunteers are currently working through a backlog of jobs and we ask that the community be patient.”

SES assistance is available by phoning 132 500. Life-threatening emergencies should be reported on  000.
