TWO NEW Lions clubs have reared their heads at Clifton Springs and Geelong’s northern suburbs.
Clifton Springs branch coordinator Joan Cook said Lions had decided the growing town could benefit from a new club despite having a Portarlington-Drysdale group next-door.
“This area’s grown so rapidly in the past three to four years we feel there’s a need for a club here.”
Ms Cook said the new group of about 14 would become a sub-branch of Portarlington-Drysdale.
Clifton Springs Lions would become a separate entity once it had a membership of 20, she said.
The new group comprised an equal mix of men and women compared to Portarlington-Drysdale’s male-only membership of 34, she said
“Portarlington-Drysdale until now has been men-only and would like to keep it that way.”
Corio Norlane Lions Club’s Richard Walter said the new group of 27 was inducted late last month.
The club ran a successful weekly breakfast program at Northern Bay College’s senior campus and planned another project with Rosewall Neighbourhood House.
