Homestyle Belmont Grange Residential Aged Care Facility has recently introduced a new dimension to its monthly exercise program.
The Lifestyle team has developed a fun and interactive Dancercise activity for residents which encourages creativity and self-expression.
Dancercise emerged from a conversation with some residents about the different types of dancing they had been involved in.
Lifestyle co-ordinator Liz Toffoli did some research on dance movements and saw the opportunity to create an alternative exercise routine that continues to promote the value of movement and inspire an appreciation of unfamiliar music.
The Dancercise activity is a collection of guided exercise and dance movements with residents contributing to the choreography as the activity occurs.
Dancercise offers residents the option of an accelerated exercise routine that involves more rapid movements in sequence with the tempo of the music.
“The activity has become a great success with our residents” Liz said.
“We have observed a noticeable increase in participation as residents remark how much they enjoy the high energy of the movements with the unfamiliar and contemporary music.”
