Cats shrine a positive portent

GROVEDALE’S June Blake has a winning feeling.
The avid Cats supporter has followed the blue and white all her life and truly believes her beloved team will return to Geelong with the chocolates this weekend.
Mrs Blake, 78, whose home was a shrine both inside and out to Geelong Football Club, said she was counting down sleeps until the Cats grand final clash with Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday.
“I went to the Cats open training session this week and I just got a funny feeling we’re going to win,” she laughed.
“It was quite unusual.
“This year has just been fabulous and another win would top it all off.”
Mrs Blake has been a Cats member for so long she remembers lining up at the gates to Kardinia Park with her children before “the run to get seats”.
She hoped her decorated abode would bring joy to both fans young and old.
“People over the years pull up and take photos here and the kindergarten up the road brings the children up to have a look at the windows,” she said.
“I get such a thrill out of decorating. All the teddies have hand made outfits and I’ve sewn a whole team of little cats which are all named after Geelong players.
“I’ve spent hundreds of hours on all the decorating.”
City of Greater Geelong Mayor John Mitchell said Saturday’s match would be broadcast live on a giant screen at Steampacket Gardens on the Waterfront for the first time.
The free family event starts at 12.30pm and finishes at 6pm. If the Cats take out the flag on Saturday the City would hold a Premiers’ Street Parade and player presentation on October 5, he said.
