During her live shows international medium Lisa Williams rounds up queues of dead people she talks to “like kids”.
Appearing before hundreds of eager audience members waiting to hear messages from their deceased loved ones can be “really overpowering”, she says.
“Sometimes I get these moments where it’s like, ‘Okay, who have I got? Who are you here for?’, so I treat them like kids and make them wait in line,” Williams explained.
“If you don’t get them to calm down you’re not going to get anywhere.”
The English-born Californian medium first shot to fame through her hit TV shows including Lisa Williams: Life Among the Dead.
Appearing on talk shows from Oprah to Larry King Live, hosting her own weekly radio show on blogtalkradio.com and penning two books have certainly kept her busy since.
Williams said her live shows were “always a lot of fun”, with plenty of healing and comfort among audience members.
“They’re your dead people, not mine, and your stories are probably more interesting than mine,” she quipped.
“Some of the spirits who come through can be quite comical but there is a lot of emotion in the room. It’s really important to get the comfort and healing for everybody but I try to make it as light as possible.
“I don’t want people crying all night!”
Williams recalled during childhood her parents dismissing her “gift” as merely an “overactive imagination” despite her grandmother, Frances Glazebrook, also being a famous medium.
Williams said the deceased appeared like mist and were “like voices in my head” that she could speak to either out loud or mentally.
Anyone who had died could connect with Williams if they wanted to, she said, and she could even do readings over the phone or online.
“They tell me real intimate stuff. I remember one reading where I actually said to one woman, ‘Did you know your husband was cheating on you?’,” she revealed.
Williams was looking forward to again visiting Australia to connect with our “more laid back” spirits.
Lisa Williams will perform in Messages From Beyond at Geelong Performing Arts Centre’s The Playhouse on 14 June.
