Cats’ ruck curse continues

FELLED: Nathan Vardy at training.

Geelong’s big man curse continues with news that ruckman and forward Nathan Vardy faces a six week layoff for a foot injury.
Geelong has had a multitude of big-man injuries over the last few seasons, including Vardy who only made a successful return from knee and hip injuries late last season.
Vardy has played just 24 AFL games since being drafted in 2009.
He suffered a foot ligament sprain in last weekend’s VFL practice game at Simonds Stadium when an opponents’ knee landed on his foot following a marking contest.
“This was just an unlucky incident during the game,” Geelong’s general manager of football Steve Hocking said.
“The good news is that there is no surgery required and we expect this injury to heal over the next month.
“Nathan will be in a boot for a couple of weeks as he continues to heal from this injury.”
