SIX Geelong paddlers have been selected for a Victorian team to contest a Australian Dragon Boat championship starting on Sunday.
The six will compete in the state dragon boat competition over a 500-metre course at Melbourne’s Docklands Harbour.
Geelong’s representatives are Aileen Phillips, Ross Parker, Mal Anderson, Neil MacArthur, Rob Chester and Lauren Vallance.
Ms Vallance said the six were all over 50, with three having previously contested national titles and the remaining trio new selections for the team.
“We’ve been training hard, travelling to Melbourne weekly to join the rest of the team. There will also be club versus club races ranging from 200 metres to 2000 metres.”
Geelong Water Dragons club organised a Give Where You Live dragon boat regatta last year, with hopes for 20 corporate teams in 2012.
