The Royal Geelong Show will proceed this year despite the disappearance of more than $100,000 from its coffers.
Police are investigating the money’s disappearance from Royal Geelong Agricultural and Pastoral Society, a not-for-profit organisation that runs the event.
Society president Sheree Seiffert said the best way for locals to help would be to pass through the gates.
Supporters could also make donations and additional sponsors were welcome, she said.
“It always helps to keep the competitions ticking along.
“We’ve had to tighten the budget with certain things but it will still be well worth coming to our family friendly show.”
Ms Seiffert declined to comment on the loss until police had finished their investigation.
Police had yet to lay any charges, she said.
A source said the amount missing was more than $100,000 but that the society had a “recovery plan in process”.
