THIS week’s Independent launches a community campaign focussing on the hidden toll of the Geelong region’s road carnage.
With the support of the TAC, the Independent’s Shattered Lives campaign will tell the stories of local victims carrying devastating legacies of pain, disability and psychological damage. The campaign will also touch on the impact of road injuries on emergency workers, health professionals and others battling to manage the aftermath.
Independent managing editor Tony Galpin said the campaign hoped to reach at-risk motorists desensitised to the traditional road toll message.
“The death rate is a national tragedy but the number of people left with injuries, sometimes horrible, life-changing injuries, is truly horrific,” Mr Galpin said.
“With the increased rate of hospital admissions from road accidents in our own region, we believe this campaign is timely and important.”
