Long overdue toilet upgrade begins

One of the most used public toilet facilities in Geelong is set for an upgrade.
Construction on the Geelong West car park public toilet, located behind the Geelong West Town Hall, will begin on Monday 4 July.
Geelong Council general manager of Strategy and Performance, Dean Frost, said the community had significant input into the new design.
“The toilet upgrade will see barriers installed to separate pedestrians using the facility from the car park traffic,” Mr Frost said.
“It will also have increased capacity with two wheelchair accessible toilets, three male toilets and three female toilets that feature an ambulant compliant cubicle included for each gender.”
Mr Frost said the upgrade was listed as a high priority in the City’s Public Toilet Upgrade Strategy 2011.
“The public toilets are situated in a busy area close to shops on Pakington Street, behind the Geelong West Town Hall,” he said
“We want to best service the community and strongly believe the new design will satisfy local shoppers.”
During construction, temporary fencing will be placed around the site and nine car parks will be obstructed for the duration of the upgrade.
“The upgrade is expected to take three months with completion due in early October,” Mr Frost said.
Mr Frost said a public toilet upgrade in Hughes Street was also almost complete.
“Next year the City will complete toilet upgrades in Kingston Park, Ocean Grove and the Gateway Sanctuary in Leopold.”
